alt-country PSA

Just so you know.....my band are playing in the Village this Thursday with Chicago's finest, the Handsome Family. Which should be pretty good, so come along. We're supporting them on their Irish tour, which is exciting (oh, who am I kidding, there is nothing exciting about Dundalk, and as well, we've got to drive all the way back to Dublin after the Kilkenny show on Saturday night because P and I have friends staying in our house and can't leave them homeless). But! They are an absolutely fantastic band, and you should all come and see them.

In other band related news, we're going to play a wee gig in the Printing House in Trinity, which I am really, really looking forward to. The Printing House is a tiny little Georgian classical building, and when I was in college, it wasn't really used for anything (of course, knowing Trinity, it was probably used as some sort of secret tourist trail or something unbeknownst to any of the students), but now it's all been done up and the music and electronic engineering faculties (in which is based P's Master's programme) have access to it, and we can put a little gig on in it! Which is very cool, because it will be lovely to play in our alma mater, where me and P and other P met. Only bands with a connection to P's course are allowed play there, so I might see if my sister's band, the Jimmy Cake, would be interested in playing too (seeing as one of them is now a lecturer on the course, and several of them did it)

Any other rock stars in your family then?
I seem to recall you mentioning a sister called Jenny?

Just out of curiosity, I did music (recorder, flute) about 8 years ago in Raheny with a girl called Jennifer [your surname] - is she any relation I wonder? She had long blond hair, and was rather talented - much more so than I - I quit at 16, when I decided I didn't have it in me to keep going with the whole classical thing. A total shot in the dark, but hey.

Oh my God, that's my sister! She did the recorder with Anne Grimes in St Paul's! Hee! That's very funny. It truly is a small world.

And no, there are no more rock legends in the family.

Yep, that'd be her. I doubt she'd remember me, except perhaps, as a dork with a crush *cringes*.
