that's what I call a happy ending

Yes! Yes yes yes yes yes! That was fucking magnificent. Everything about it. It was just beautiful. I got a bit teary when Tim, that truly decent boy, offered to go for a drink with the pathetic Brent. I started bawling when 'Back for Good' by Take That came on when Dawn was leaving, and I cried even more when she opened her parcel. And when we saw her return in the background, my sister and I literally started shrieking with joy. Even the vile Brent's happy ending made us smile.

It was perfect television. A comedy that makes you cry properly is a beautiful thing.

Even though the show stayed true to its cringe worthy close-to-the-bone honesty, its ability to maintain an underlying generosity (that was always there but which really came out in this last episode) is part of what makes this show really special, especially compared to a lot of TV humor around that's just based on jeering and meanspiritedness.

Yes! That's exactly what I loved about it. There was an interview in the Irish Times with Ricky Gervais last week, and he said that the only characters who are completely loathsome in it are Finchy and Lee. Which is totally true.

Someone said of JD Salinger that "he loved his characters more than God loves them", which I think is true of Gervais/Marchant and The Office. And it's one of the nicest things you can say about a writer.

I'd like to read that, but Nexis doesn't have it -- was it in a supplement?
