true confessions

I have a confession to make.

Well, actually, I have two. The first is that I enjoyed Mona Lisa Smile. I went to see a screening of it for a thing I'm doing for the I**** T*****, and I thought I'd hate it, and yes, there were many cheesey and annoying things about it, but I kind of enjoyed it. I mean, I wasn't bored. Maybe it's just because I love Maggie Gyllenhal, but anyway, I didn't spend the entire time trying to see my watch by the light of the screen.

The other confession is that I am a bad worker. I have many books to read for work. And did I spend this evening reading them? No, I did not. I was reading, all right, but what I was reading was the first of Meg Cabot's Missing books (which are known as 1800-Where-R-You in America), which I got out of the library yesterday. I read it in one sitting. I was literally glued to my seat. So yes, when I should have been reading the new Colm Toibin novel about Henry James, I was reading about psychic teenagers. And I'm fairly certain that I chose the more entertaining option. But still. It means I don't get to leave the house tomorrow, and instead must spend the day reading dull things. Although I got the first three Missing books out of the library, which means the other two are sitting, unread, on the table...

Mona Lisa Smile was supposed to take place at Bryn Mawr and Swarthmore, originally. And because it's not (there were, according to the BiCo [BMC/Haverford newspaper], issues getting all the techie people here), I have been boycotting out of protest. But I hafta see Maggie! Because I love her! Love her like a much-beloved thing.

The Dyke Squad and I all agreed that some of the scenes in Secretary were the hottest we'd ever seen in a movie, even though it contained a boy. *grins*

Also? I own all four 1800WHERERU books. I love them. They're fucking fabulous. I got them originally as trash and I ended up falling madly in love with them.

I own my shame, yo.

1. I rather suspect that I would like Mona Lisa Smile, because I am a sucker for cheesy things like that.

2. I am such a bad worker that I have already decided that I am skiving off work tomorrow, due to snow, and industrial action, and the fact that I can't be arsed to travel 2 hours either way to sit in an office all day with nothing much to do. I will, of course, be officially 'working from home', but as I have no work to do at the moment, I shall in reality be redrafting my novel.

I am so going to get fired, sooner or later.

Glad I'm not the only one who does this. Having a Baby G really helps though because it has a light on it already.
