High drama here in suburbia this morning: shortly after a dramatic face off with Ju Ju, tiny Bubbles boinged over the fence and ran around our garden, pursued by me (in pyjamas) and two of Bubbles's infant keepers. Eventually he was captured and borne back to his own garden by Leon. Ju Ju was inside at the time, glowering out through the glass back door. Oh, the excitement, it never stops around here.

In other news, I went to a barbecue last night where I ate vast quantities of delicious food and smoked way, way too many cigarettes. Not feeling the best this morning, I can tell you, a state of affairs which probably hasn't been helped by running around after a very bouncy and adventurous kitten. I want to spend the day making lavender bags (I picked a big bunch of lavender from the park the other day and it's just dried out) and reading Georgette Heyer, but alas I have shitloads of work to do so the day will be spent listening to my remarkably high pitched, nasal voice (at least, that's how it sounds on tape) embarrassing myself in conversation with the aforementioned Kate Atkinson. I can't describe how much I loathe listening to my interviews.

Hee, we are exactly identical in our cigarette consumption, aren't we? Quite happily go weeks without them, then go somewhere social where there is alcohol and a need to do something with one's hands and other people smoking who don't mind you cadging them off them and and and!

And then the sore throat and the inability to breathe deeply and the gross taste in your mouth the next morning and the vows that this MUST NOT HAPPEN AGAIN! What I haven't decided is whether or not I'm allowed to smoke in August, when there's no choir. Tricksy...

Hee, you're so right! And I am still determined that it will never happen again, although since Patrick has taken up fags again and is smoking like a veritable chimney, this is harder than it looks. The smoking ban helps - although I find that smoking breaks are working the way they did when I was in college - it's a nice reason to go out and have a chat! And it was all the "I'm just going out for a quick smoke - want to come?" invitations during my finals that got me smoking properly in the first place...
