PATSINGTON GOT A FIRST IN HIS MASTER'S!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wrote a while ago about Connie Willis bragging about her discovery of hitherto ignored elements of the second world war, like Dunkirk and evacuees. Yesterday in the Hodges Figgis sale I saw this book, about the WW1 Christmas truce. According to the blurb, it's one of history's "most forgotten" Christmas stories. That must be why there was an account of it in one of my primary school English books. And why it's become a commonplace cultural reference. You know, it would be perfectly easy for these writers to just say that these stories aren't known in America. To act like they've been forgotten everywhere else is ridiculous.
