fat pony like thunder

Happy 2006, people. I spent the last day of 2005 having lots of sensibly timed fun (an oxymoron? Possibly) - my friend the Mozzer and I came up with the brilliant idea of doing something in the afternoon of new year's eve, thereby fulfilling our need to spend the last day of the year having fun with chums without having to brave the horrors of the city centre late at night. And it was brilliant - six of us went for a long, late lunch at about four, and headed home at about half six - two to a party, two to their house, and me and Patsington to his parents' house, where we quaffed wine, had a gorgeous dinner, watched some vintage comedy and were tucked up in the scratcher by two. Perfect! Today was spent eating and (oh the shame) doing Sudoku (by the way, I was very relieved to see that some of you have also recently succumbed to Sudoku's siren song. I am not alone!) and reading Angela Carter's The Magic Toyshop which was my favourite, favourite book in my late teens and which I have been scared to re-read over the last decade in case it wasn't as wonderful as I remembered it. But it is, which is a great relief.

And now I hear the sound of Patsington approaching with a cup of tea, so I am off to watch Poirot. Happy new year!
