pedantry, romans

humourless feminist alert!

So Christopher Hitchens believes women aren't funny". Apparently, we are too morbidly obsessed with our reproductive organs, or something. Like much of Hitchens's waffling, it doesn't really make much sense. Catherine Bennett has a rather good take-down, but one question remains unanswered: in a recent Guardian Profile, Hitchens listed Richmal Crompton's William books as one of his major inspirations. Do you think he actually knows that Crompton was a woman? Or could - horror of horrors - he not actually find the William books funny? I don't know which is worse!
