I am too depressed at what's going on in America - which has basically robbed me of my faith in human nature - to write any political rants today.

Instead, I shall clear something up for (ahem) fans of From Here to Sweet Valley.

It has come to my attention that some of you are not aware that when I refer to Bruce picking Jessica up on the dancefloor and spinning her over his head, I AM NOT MAKING IT UP.

No, that incident took place in Playing With Fire, the same book which described Bruce bounding up the stairs of SVH "with the grace of a young lion."

What a handsome couple! Look at Bruce's luxurious locks. No wonder Jessica found him so irresistable.

Believe me, whatever I put in this story, it can never be quite as freakish as the original. Well, except for the whole flying monkey thing. And Alice Wakefield's Wildean portrait. But anything else can probably be surpassed in weirdness by Francine Pascal and her sweatshop of writers...and if you don't believe me, just read the one where Jessica dyes her hair and starts dressing in "European" style....

That was always one of my favourites.

Me too. Imagine, Jessica actually having an emotional problem. How does she handle it? Change her "look," of course. :)

Wait, she had an emotional problem? It wasn't just an excuse to go shopping?

Never mind. I have a copy at home, and I'm not afraid to read it.

Hello! Yes, I'm one of the organisers - I'm on the steering committee. Oh! Are you one of the people who did the fundraiser for us in Belfast? If so, thanks!

ahhh! the anna on the mailing list! i see now - i'm on the mailing list too. i didn't do the fundraiser, though i was there and met whoever came up (forgotten now, and was also a bit drunk by the end of the night :/). it was a random evening, and i won't forget helen toland performing 'paddy mcginty's goat' in costume as val doonican for quite some time.

hopefully i'll find you when i'm down for ladyfest!

Not that I am considering bidding on my own copy of 'playing with fire'. Oh, no. Not at all.

I reread this book just last month and I didn't even blink an eye at this scene. That must be a testament to how screwy the world of these books really is. The early ones are especially loopy, aren't they - or am I remembering incorrectly?

I need to re-read my copy. If I can't find mine, can I borrow yours the next time I see you?

Of course.

Quick, write some more. I need some distraction from the blood boiling in my ears. Please?
