Crazy religious conservatives rewrite history, science.

Oh, how I wish it were an Onion article. But it isn't. Yes, a conservative religious group are demanding that history be rewritten - or at least re-edited - because they can't handle the fact that lots of liberal marches and demonstrations took place at the Lincoln Memorial, and that these events are depicted in a short documentary film which is shown to visitors to the site.

["Traditional Values Coalition" (yikes) chairman Rev Lou] Sheldon would like film of some conservative marches intercut as well, though it is unclear whether any major conservative marches have taken place at the Lincoln Memorial itself, which is the film's focus.

But who cares about pesky details! Especially when the National Parks are on your crazy-ass side when it comes to geology:

Park bookstores at the Grand Canyon now sell the book "Grand Canyon: A Different View," which contradicts science, saying the Grand Canyon was formed by the great flood from the Bible story of Noah. The book was written by a "born again" river guide who writes that his view of the canyon's being millions of years old changed after he "met the Lord. Now, I have 'a different view' of the Canyon, which, according to a biblical time scale, can't possibly be more than about a few thousand years old."

Good Lord. So to speak. How...I mean, why...I....words fail me. How can this be 2004? Hell, I grew up in a country which was still practically a theocracy at the time, and it was never suggested in school or indeed church for one second that the biblical creation story was literal truth.

But the scariest bit of that piece is at the end, in which Sheldon says that "[during] this past administration, it's like we died and went to heaven and got a preview of what's to come."

And that, my friends, is a terrifying, terrifying thought.

Yeah, especially as, if heaven is life under the Bush administration, it's full of terrorist attacks, increased poverty, and a badly managed unpopular war. Gah.
