childish boasting alert

Behold my mad knitting skillz (and a bit of my desk)!

I wanted to make something which used my new intarsia ("picture knitting) powers, and decided it would be pretty easy to make a wristlet (or "Norwegian pulse warmers", as they are apparently known in some circles). I got the pattern for the piratical skull and crossbones from the new Stitch and Bitch book, and made up the rest. I made a rather boring black and red one last night, and this slightly more jolly pink and red creation this afternoon when I should have been working. Now, what shall I knit next? I'm thinking a piratical tea-cosy.....

Thanks! Try knitting one yourself - it only takes about an hour from start to finish.

Excellent! Both piratical and incongruously girly.

Perhaps I shall make Future Baby a pirate hat instead of an apple hat...

Dude, you seriously rule. I had just talked myself out of learning to knit, but now I'm thinking I will try after all. Yes, you're just that inspiring!

Hee! Thanks. And, learn to knit! You definitely won't regret it. The first Stitch and Bitch book is a good one to start learning from.

Deeply impressed. I just love pirate stuff. What is/are Stitch and Bitch books? I haven't done any knitting for yonks - not since Debbie Bliss days when my kids were weeny - but I think I feel a knit coming on!

The Stitch and Bitch books are two "hip" knitting books by Debbie Stoller, editor of the excellent girlie feminist magazine Bust. You can get them easily from Amazon, and they're both great and full of cool, practical patterns.

Hello, I hope you don't mind me adding you. I was looking at who shares the same interests as me in the hope of widening my Lj friends circle.

I may know people in Dublin that you do - Kirstie who organised the bands for Ladyfest and Maeve who works at the Irish Sunday Mirror?

Gorgeous! Did you find the intarsia very hard? I've been eyeing off the Punk Rock backpack for a while, but I'm not sure if I'm ready yet.
