prince of morons

I can't stop laughing at Prince Harry, Nazi impersonator and enormous fool. I wonder where he got his costume? Perhaps there were a few old swastikas lying around the palace from his great-great-uncle's day. Anyway, I find it rather funny that none of the media commentators have made a big deal about the fact that this fancy dress party had a "colonial and native" theme. I mean, really! What sort of appalling people have a "colonial and native" party? Oh right, inbred toffs, I forgot. I wonder was anyone dressed as a comedy Irish peasant? Or would that be too boring? After all, Prince William was...I still can't type this without laughing..."dressed as a lion"......

Prince William's a Gryffindor!

After reading this on LJ yesterday, I also heard it being reported on the BBC World Service. How embarrassing do you think it is, being a British person listening to your country's international radio service, which is going out to hundreds of former colonies that you're trying to build a mature post-colonial, Commonwealthish relationship with, and they're reporting that the Bright Posh Young Things of the day think that "colonial and native" parties are the thing? Oh dear God.

It's not as if Britain elected him or his family, though, which should mitigate the embarassment a bit.

I am still torn between almost terminal bogglement and hysterical laughter over this after reading about it on amphoteric's journal. DRESSED AS A LION????

Somebody on another site linked to the Sky News "Speak Your Words!!!" bit on the subject, and I am now also boggling at the number of people who thought this was "harmless, red-blooded fun". "I dressed up as a Nazi all the time as a young man, and now I'm married to a German! She thinks it's hilarious, as do my Jewish friends", that sort of thing. Apparently any questioning of young Harry's judgement is PC GONE MAD.

Another friend pointed out that maybe he was making some kind of highly satirical point about the nature of colonialism, but then realized that this was Prince Harry we were talking about...

Yes, I was a bit confused as to the nature of the relationship between the costume and the theme. But mostly I was humiliated. I feel like wearing a "Yes, I'm kind of English but I'm really a complex product of Empire and region! Don't hate me!" tshirt, today.

Of course, that would only be effective if I EVER GOT TO GO OUTSIDE AT ALL.

Completely fucking unbelievable, isn't it? As soon as I heard the theme I went all Lieutenant George: "The war started because of the vile Hun and his villainous empire-building." Of course, that only explains the Germanic part, and not the Nazism or its role in the idiotic theme.

I am exceptionally confused about the role of the lion.

I know! I've been sniggering at this since I read it!

You can just see it, can't you, dressed as one of those comedy lions ...Shame it wasn't like a panto horse, where there had to be two of them? That would probably have been too tempting for the "Prince William is an arse" headlines.

Hee, I can indeed just see it! Oh, it's been making me laugh all day. Seriously!

Dressed as a lion! Oh, those wacky ultra-posh lads!

I was expressing my unparallelled amusement at this to one of my friends, who wondered whether anyone asked him "why have you come to this party dressed as Peter Stringfellow?".

Jan. 13th, 2005 03:24 pm (UTC)

Oh, so cruel!

I think you just made my day. :-D

(well, you know he can at least dress for the ocassion, non?)

I don't understand the lion thing. Am I supposed to?

Also, colonial and native party. What a bunch of fucking fucks.
Jan. 13th, 2005 03:47 pm (UTC)
Why, he is the King of Beasts, of course.

*imagines Prince William doing cat-hands and roaring*

*imagines Prince William with a stupid tail made of rope*

*imagines Nazi Harry riding Lion William for the cameras*

*is very glad she's not really British*

I can't even make fun of him for being dumb, now. BECAUSE I AM DUMB.

At least I"m not an asshole.

What amazes me is that Prince Harry could actually do something that stupid without someone at least trying to stop him. Didn't anybody see him get the costume/get ready to go out/whatever and ask, "So, Harry, what the fuck are you doing in a Nazi outfit, you big dumbass?"

And a "colonial and native" party? I just can't describe how obnoxious that sounds.

Hmmm, given that no one seems to have questioned the tastefulness of going to a "colonial and native" party, I think that'd be expecting too much of Harry's chums!

Good point. His friends can't be all that bright, either. Or maybe their posh lifestyles have left them so isolated from reality that they just don't think anything they do could possibly be offensive? Eeesh.
Jan. 13th, 2005 09:16 pm (UTC)
Really. The entire idea of the party is offensive, and the idea that someone who knows most of what he does receives media attention and has his entire life possesses so little judgement is rather scary in itself.

(Oh. I friended you. I tried to leave you a comment to tell you and to introduce myself, but alas, I was not permitted to do so. I hope that's okay.../ot)
Jan. 13th, 2005 05:17 pm (UTC)

Maybe next year I'll have an "antebellum masters and slaves" party. Because THAT wouldn't offend anyone, right?

The really galling part is that he probably chose that costume because he hoped to shock people, and nobody bothered to say "Uh, Harry, bad idea, BAD idea..."
