Good heavens. My fanfic article was finally in the paper today (huzzah!) and, freakishly, was mentioned on RTE's Morning Ireland show, in the regular What It Says In The Papers media round up (you can hear it here - it's just over an hour into the show, so you can cut straight to it with Realplayer). This is incredibly, incredibly bizarre, not least because, like just about everyone else in the country ,I grew up with that programme in the background every single morning, so hearing my name mentioned in What It Says In the Papers is just.....insane. As is hearing Morning Ireland telling the world about fanfic.

Ooh! That is swish indeed. I've read the article too (someone with online access cut and pasted for me) and really liked it. Yay you!

Thank you! Glad you liked it. I haven't seen it yet - I hope they didn't hack it up too much (as subeditors so often do).

Woo! And highlighted on the web site, too. Go you!

Thanks! But where was it highlighted on the site? I didn't see that!

In the 'Features and Opinion' box on the front page, it's the first item. Sorry, maybe you'd seen that, and our definitions of 'highlighted' differ. But I thought it was pretty impressive. I'm sorry I couldn't get to read it, but the mention on the radio was really good.

Ah, I was looking at the Morning Ireland page - just saw it on the paper's page! Huzzah! I have to go round to the shops and get the actual paper now...

Ah, sorry, I was being *too* vague!

The only thing that was missing from the radio item was the mention of slash, but perhaps that would have been going too far... :-) But that seems to be how the paper's site is pitching it? Whatever, I hope you get good feedback.

That's awesome. And pah! to that commissioning ed who delayed it. Now they will see their error.

Hurrah! Well done you. Awesome article, and, man, you're famous today, aren't you?

I read in someone else's LJ that "Anna Carey has written an article that I want to read" and I went into ridiculous I KNOW HER hyperdrive.

Hee! And, ooh, really? Also, I wish the I**** T**** would make their features accessible to non-account holders, at least for a day or two (they could do what the NY Times does, and charge for access to the archives).

You're a celebrity I'm telling you. You practically need your own entourage.

I read a really interesting article recently about the future of online papers and their subscription policies and what that means for their future relevance -- I should dig it out. But to encapsulate: I***** T****? Should let us see their features for free.

Hoorah!

Although, I am miffed that I can't read it. Bloody subscription based websites. Fie.

Alas I just get the 'cough up the cash, bitch' page. Perhaps your workplace has a subscription?

Hmm. I think you're right, as I just got something from the archives. Maybe they actually listened to me for once . . .
