dance motherfucker dance

Okay, squeeeeing over (for now). My lovely presents will have to console me for the fact that I am missing a friend's birthday drinks tonight because I have to go (alone, because no one will go to it with me, understandably) to a modern dance performance out in the burbs for work. And I have to go to a godawful sounding play on Saturday, so I may not be able to socialise as planned with barsine and her beau. My life is so cruel! As a highly amused Patsington said this morning, "yes, it's like the third world, with your social life being impinged by the modern dance shows you're being paid to go to." I can't really complain, can I? No, I can't.

I can, however, complain about the bunch of inarticulate bigots I've just heard on Radio 4 boasting that they're voting Tory mostly because "they'll stop immigration, won't they?" Charming. Michael Howard definitely seems to be going for the old Enoch Powell voters....

I'd have gone to the modern dance thing with you. Will your illustrious employer pay my airfare?

Probably, if they had a bit more notice! They do love flinging money around, as my €160 taxi ride the other day proved....

*snort* Name ONE person whose ancestors did not, at some point in time, immigrate to some place or other and breed.

A couple of years ago, I was travelling a lot for work. Because I was only working part-time, I finished up that week's work in Wales, drove on to Fishguard, dumped the car and spent a few days with my parents.

While waiting for my ferry back at Rosslare I got chatting to a nice Welsh bloke who was working for a Wexford company - and I'd already recognised his boss and said hello. So when I discovered that this guy was going to be freezing his bum off at Fishguard for a couple of hours waiting for a train to Swansea, I offered him a lift, as it seemed like perfectly safe conditions. Very nice guy, very funny, and along the way, he fessed up that his brother was a big name in the BNP (and that he did not agree with his brother). We had a glorious time coming up with lines for him to use for brother-baiting purposes: Normans out, Angles out, Romans out... we went on and on with it.

I really hoped he used them on his brother.

My beau can't socialise on Saturday either, as he is going to see the Go-Team (I am not, as I spent all my money on Derren Brown). And neither can J-Gu on Saturday OR Friday. We're doomed to solitude. Any chance you'd want to dine before the awful play on Saturday? I will be in town wedding present shopping ...

Yes, I would be delighted to dine - the Yamamori, perchance?

Arghhhhhhhh! This infuriates me so much! How can Howard have the hypocrisy to appeal to anti-immigration when he knows what happened the last time they brought in anti-immigration limits! How can he do this? Have we learnt nothing? For fuck's sake! You think the guy would have some understanding of how desperate people's plight is when they have to leave everything they've come from and try again in a new and hopefully safer place. How can he do this? The man makes me physically sick.

I KNOW.He's revolting, just pandering to people's worst instincts.

How can Howard do it when his own father was an illegal immigrant? And furthermore, an illegal immigrant under much more liberal laws than exist today?

*vomits in sympathy*

(ps: do you think they'd notice that Father Ted is dead, too?)

Naw. They just record a voicebox for him in which he says "That would be an ecumenical matter" and "The money was only resting in my account" and he'll fool them all!

In fact, Dougal will take over Ratzinger's job and Jack will get to be the Pope's deputy and say mass and stuff when Holy Father Ted is resting and all will be well with the world!

You *know* it makes sense.

When and where has a politican or political party ever had the power to completely stop immigration?
