I think this whole case is appalling, but it's great to see that this girl has been able to speak up and that she's defending her own decision in court.

The 13 year old girl in Florida who is being prevented from having an abortion (which I mentioned "Why can't I make my own decision?"
That was the blunt question to a judge from a pregnant 13-year-old girl ensnared in a Palm Beach County court fight over whether she can have an abortion.
"I don't know," Circuit Judge Ronald Alvarez replied, according to a recording of the closed hearing obtained Friday.
"You don't know?" replied the girl, who is a ward of the state. "Aren't you the judge?"

DCF attorney Jeffrey Gillen said he was concerned L.G. was more likely to suffer "detrimental effects" if she underwent an abortion because she had psychiatric or behavioral problems in the past.
So she should be entrusted with a child instead? What the fuck is this guy smoking?
And if she has psych problems, post-partum depression is not going to help.

She gets all kinds of respect from me for knowing that she's in no position to raise a child and being willing to stand up for herself in what must be a nerve-wracking situation. If the quotes in that article are accurate, then she is clearly mature and articulate far beyond what would be expected of an average 13-year-old. Ironically, she's probably better equipped than most teenage moms to raise a child, if only because she realizes what an extraordinary challenge it would be and isn't just looking forward to having a cute little baby to dress up and show off.
