A (TRUE!) Tale of Two Kitties

Once upon a time there was a kitten called Bubbles. Bubbles was jolly and nimble and good hearted. And so when his next door neighbour was asked to call in and feed him and dandle him on her knee while his owners were away, she instantly agreed. Just look at that cute little face!

But Bubbles's life was not all fun and games. For there was an evil feline enchantress living next door, a cat called Princess Arjumand whose purely evil nature was visible in every feature.

When the evil Princess Arjumand heard that Bubbles was receiving attention and affection that should have belonged to her, she couldn't bear it. And so she decided to attack. The next day, Bubbles's temporary carer went in to give him his breakfast. He'd made a hearty meal, and she was just about to let him out the front door, when she heard a hideous sound. A hideous, whiney, waily sound. And when she looked out into the porch she saw that the evil Princess was besieging the house!

As you can imagine, the tiny Bubbles was most alarmed.

And eventually, he bowed his head in submission to his new ruler.

But! This story has a happy ending, as the caretaker and Bubbles realised that the enchantress was so stout she'd never get round to the back of the house before them. And so they went out to the back garden and Bubbles scampered over the roof tops, leaving the evil Princess Arjumand roaring in frustrated rage.

It's totally what happened as well.

It literally is what happened! Those are documentary photos, made possible by the fact that I took my phone in when I was going to feed him! Once I'd let Bubbles out the back, I had to fight off Ju Ju at the front - she was trying to get into the house and eat Bubbles's food!

Cats are so fantastic. I can't believe that Ju Ju managed to work out you were giving food to another cat so quickly, it's quite spooky. And the picture of Bubbles looking alarmed is absolutely right. The one foot lifted to step away and make a quick getaway, completely spot-on. I'll have to start uploading some pictures of my cats now too.

I know, she's sinister! I think she saw me going into the house yesterday too, and she must have seen me going in today. But she's always trying to get in next door - before Bubbles arrived she was always 'visiting' (ie begging for food from) the neighbours, and I think she still thinks it's her house, not his! When mrs Next Door was giving me the keys the other day, we were standing in the hall and she was explaining their new alarm when Ju Ju waddled up, plonked herself at the door and started hissing at Bubbles, who was coming up the drive! She's just dreadful.

So that's where her name comes from! I love that book.

Yes, she's named after a much more serene and adventurous Ju Ju!

Bubbles is adorable. And so good. He makes me even more ashamed of Ju Ju than I already am...

You know it's only a short step from Cat Photo Stories to Stuffed Kitten Tableaux, don't you?

Bwahahahaha! I know AND I DON'T CARE! Okay, I do care a bit. Never fear, there will be no stuffed kittens for me!

Eeee! I love this story. Was Bubbles appropriately smug and bouncy after the evil princess was FOILED?
May. 10th, 2005 01:50 pm (UTC)
No, actually, he was quite subdued - I think he was worried she'd suddenly appear at the back of the house too! But he got away quickly. She's currently sitting in a flower bed in our front garden, and looks asleep, so he should be safe for the time being...

Just look at her eyes in the photo of her out on the porch! Evil incarnate! Thank God there was a sturdy pane of glass between us at the time...
