I fucking hate my annoying neighbours. No, seriously.

This morning I was making my first cup of tea of the day when I heard a piteous whining sound coming from outside. I went out to the backgarden and found it was coming from their garden - they've got a yappy little Jack Russell called Holly, and I assumed it was her. She sounded quite distressed and I wanted to make sure she was okay, but the fence between our gardens is abouteight feet high, so I went upstairs to look in to the garden from David's room, which is at the back of the house.

And when I looked down into their garden I saw not Holly, but a tiny little russet coloured puppy, crying and crying in a state of great distress. I couldn't see Holly, but I assume she was there too because I could hear her barking angrily at the puppy. I called out and the puppy looked up and saw me, and ran over to the fence in an obvious attempt to reach me (which meant I couldn't see it anymore). There's nothing I can do, though - I talked to the puppy for a while, which stopped it crying, but as soon as I stopped speaking it starting whining again. I obviously can't stay there all day, and even if I did, I can't get into it if Holly attacks it.

What sort of pricks get a tiny puppy and treat it like that? I mean, it's bad enough that they leave their horrible teenage children alone every single weekend*, but neglecting a tiny puppy and leaving it with an aggressive little terrier? They are fucking horrible and I hate them.

*I should add that I am not one of those creepy people who think that mistreatment of animals is worse than mistreatment of humans - hell, I eat meat - but as I said in comments, I'm used to their apparent indifference towards the kids, but the mistreatment of animals is a revolting novelty.

Call the animal cruelty people if this goes on more than a day or so? If they don't want the puppy, someone else certainly will. (And you should be able to call anonymously.)

Fucking bastard bastards.

What she said. How utterly horrible.

I was going to say to maybe call into them first and tell them that they need to do something before you call the ISPCA, but then if you do end up calling the ISPCA then they'll know it was you. Of course, that depends on whether you care about that....

Nah, why give them a warning? They don't deserve it. Let the visit from the animal rescue people be a surprise. Dickweeds.

Ah, I was wondering if y'all had an animal welfare or humane society you could call.

And I'd LOVE to have a puppy! I'd name him George, really, I would, even if it was a girl.

Fuckers! What the fucking fuck? Possibly contact the RSPCA-type place if Holly does attack it?

What complete fuckers. I hate people like that. You should kidnap the puppy and give it a better home (if Ju Ju didn't evil it to death).

Is there anyway you can get into the garden, or let the puppy into your garden? It's awful. I really hope you can make an anonymous complaint to the RSPCA equivalent. Thats' so sick.

I don't know what the Irish equivalent of Animal Control is, but I'd call them. Your asshat neighbors deserve to get bitch-slapped by the law.

Um...if they don't care much about their own offspring, why would they care about a "mere" animal?

Not condoning their behaviour in any way, but...well, this makes me hate your neighbours, but does not (unfortunately) surprise me.

And yeah. What everyone else said. Call the ISPCA. You can't do much about the shitheads, but at least you can try to get the puppy taken care of.

Yeah, I'm not really surprised either - I suppose this is just the icing on the cake of their callous awfulness. And it's the horrible novelty aspect too - at this stage I'm depressingly used to them being apparently indifferent to their kids, but being indifferent to a puppy is new...

Aaaargh! Bastards. I hope you can get the ISPCA to take an interest. Well done for doing what you did; I'm sorry, I know it must have felt awful, not being able to do any more.

Same here. My reason is that animals are completely and utterly dependent upon us (especially when we've brought them into our lives) for their emotional and physical well-being. If I don't feed the cats, it's not like they can open the fridge and do it theirowndamnselves. Humans can, for the most part, figure out how to shift for themselves, sometimes they require a little help from other humans, but animals are devastatingly vulnerable to both our worst and best behavior.

Turn the bastards in.
