Cultural Imperialism (so there)

Hmmm. Apparently the film version of the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (aka the greaest comic ever made) will be quite unlike the original comic. Partly because they've introduced more American characters, and moved some of the action there. And my beloved Mina Murray is no longer leader of the league.

This pisses me off no end. Why the hell do American producers insist on shoving in token American characters or actors into terribly non-American things? Will Americans really refuse to see a film if it's set in another country, or go to see it just because there's one American actor in it? Surely not. If the League film is a success, and despite these reports I really hope it is, I can't imagine it will be because they shoved in Tom Sawyer.

I really do love America; my parents lived in D.C. for three years and I've spent a lot of time there, but man, it's only a matter of time before this isn't a joke....
