Pandababy has a name! Sorry, Tai Shan, but you'll always be Pandababy to me. And to Patsington, who promises to perform the Pandababy song at his band's next gig.

In less cute news, I went to the doctor today and I have to get a camera shoved down my throat to see whether I have a hiatal hernia (ie, to see if my stomach is pushing into my throat and filling it with aceeeeeeeeed). Waaah!

Ick! I hope you're okay. What made them think that?

But Pandababy! Squee!

I have all the symptoms, but they want to make sure. It's not very serious or anything, but it'll probably be quite unpleasant! A friend of mine had one to see if she had an ulcer, and she says it was the most horrible medical experience of her life.

I haven't seen you for AGES! Are you free to lunch later this week?

Still, though, ICK!

There's a possibility of Wednesday, but I'm going to have to see how much I get done tomorrow before I make any plans for the following day. I can probably make an excuse for myself to go into town for a bit, and thus meet you for luncheses.

Eee, that sounds horrible! Hope you're OK. At least there is Pandababy to console you!

And what consolation he is! I hope it won't be too bad - my GP said that although it's not done under a general anaesthetic, if you explain that have a strong gag reflex (and I used not be able to swallow tablets) they basically give you so many sedatives that it doesn't hurt. My friend L had it done with only a valium and said it was horrendous, but I'm going to demand the temazepam!

Poor you! Try to think of Pandababy the whole time!

I second that advice! Lie still and think of the panda. Poor poor you.

I had it done, and they sedated me, and it was fine. You can't even remember it afterwards you're so doped up. And it doesn't hurt after at all, just my throat was a bit scratchy and dry.

I didn't know you'd had it! Louise had one a few years ago and said it was dreadful, but I think they basically just sprayed her throat with anaesthetic and then gave her a valium so she wasn't doped up eough.

I had it done in fourth year in college -- it really was fine. I didn't like feeling so dopey and weird afterwards, but it wears off and it's better than being fully conscious!

That hernia sounds frightful! All the best with it!

Yaaaaay! My name won!

But I always call him "my wee panda friend." Have you seen how big and fluffy he is? Like a hair conditioner commercial.

Many sympathies for the camera. Bleh. Demand all available drugs. Demand all available drugs. For my root canals, I yelped each time there was the slightest pain and got plenty of numb-making shots to the jaw. Yesssss.

Yes! Ask for lots of drugs! I know a couple of people who've had an endoscopy with heaps o' sedation, and they said it was fine.

I had it done WITH NO ANAESTHETICS/SEDATION, NOT EVEN VALIUM, a fact that appalls other doctors when I trot it out. It was, er, not pleasant. That said, it was totally worth it (they were able to diagnose me with a helicobacter pylori infection, which, once treated, completely cleared up all my stomach problems). Hopefully yours will have similarly useful results.

I know lots of people who had the ERCP thing done and so long as they were consciously sedated they felt fine. And I will spare you the one really dreadful story I know about When Endoscopy Goes Wrong! I am helpful that way. ;) Best of luck!
