Heavens, this series of the new Miss Marple adaptations is much better than the last. I think Geraldine McEwan is all wrong for Miss Marple, but in this series they seem to have totally sidelined her - or at least chosen books in which she doesn't play a central role. Not that they're really sticking to the books, of course - usually deviation from a source text drives me insane, but for some reason I don't mind it at all here.

And what really makes this series better is the fact that stylistically, they're totally camping it up. Both the first one and tonight's episode have been shot in a sort of pseudo '50s style which I love - it's all glorious technicolour, the lighting is really stylised and when someone drives they do so in front of a blatantly obvious projection. It looks fantastic, and adds a layer of retro camp that prevents comparisons with the Joan Hickson version. A very pleasant surprise (although Chairman Meow doesn't seem to be enjoying it much, as she keeps walking around on top of me, kneading me with her paws).
