the hooded man

A new Robin Hood series! But will it be as hilarious and bizarre as the '80s hooded man? I bet it won't. I bet it won't have Herne the Hunter (lookalike of Tommy from The Mighty Boosh). And I bet its special effects won't consist of a red camera filter and some clashing synth sounds either. In other words, I will be disappointed.

And it won't have ME in it! SO it will clearly suck.

Gah, how could I have left out that important element?! Perhaps you could wangle a part in the new version...

I was just going to chime in to say that if it doesn't have Infant yiskah, I want NOTHING TO DO WITH IT.

Paul Cornell, who wrote the Father's Day episode of Doctor Who, is writing one of the episodes of this too.

For years, I have based my image on Michael Praed's Robin of Sherwood - especially the more mullety aspects of it. However, I am inclining more as I grow older to the look cultivated by the magnificent sheriff of Notingham.

I actually own the DVD box set, so I have source material to refer to in my quest for the perfect "look".

Ha, I too own the complete DVD collection (featuring yiskah and her dad in starring roles)! Sadly, I have not used it to perfect my Maid Marian aesthetic (yet). I think you could be on the right track with the stylish Sheriff, though. The robes! The pudding bowl hair-do! The swaggering! And of course the slashy scenes with Guy of Guisborne! He is truly an icon of our times.

The Sheriff of course was played by Nicholas Grace, who first practiced his louche art as the notoriously depraved and decadent Anthony Blanche in Brideshead Revisited. As you say, he brought more than a little of the Brideshead sensibility to bear on his scenes with the oh-so-public-school Guy. The Hooded Man (ooer) may be crying out for the Secret Diaries of the Lord of the Rings treatment.

Now, where did I put that pudding bowl?

I didn't know he played Anthony Blanche! What perfect casting.

And even though I'm not a fic reader, I think it's safe to say that there is already vast amounts of Sheriff/Guy slash out there. It's hardly necessary, though, not after the real scene in which the duo share a bath ("Rub me, Guisborne! Harder! Ah, the relief!"). The Sheriff overacts even more than usual (although not as much as that bit where he goes mad because he looked into a book of Kaballah).
