Car company Chevrolet had the bright idea of allowing the public to create their own ads for the company's new SUV online, using stock images of SUVs and supplying your own text. But of course a lot of the contributions weren't quite what Chevy had in mind. Watch some ads here.

I was just coming over to say the same thing. Brilliant. Absolutely spectacular. What I would give to watch a video of the Chevy marketing people watching these clips... Bwah-ha! Although they had to know it was coming.

Seriously, though, there is this stupid trend in marketing about making your customers "evangelists" for your products. (I did not make that up; there's a book out about it, but I can't remember the title/author just now.) I suspect that whomever came up with this contest was buying into that idea in a big way. Eeesh.

Yeah! Get groovy content FREE, without having to pay people to generate it! It's the SALON.com marketing strategy. :snort:

The ads are frackin' awesome.

Best satire EVER. No one saw this coming? No one figured that us damn liberal hippy types would hijack the site? Really?

The only comfort I have is that these executives are so DUMB.
