no eggsageration

Question: if you brunched yesterday on eggs benedict, aka eggs in EGG SAUCE, is it a good idea to breakfast today on poached egg on toast? I love eggs, but that feast yesterday was so rich I couldn't eat anything else until nine last night (whereupon I ate noodles while watching Cary Grant in Howard Hawks's I Was a Male War Bride, which is the first time I've seen female senior army officers on film. Very entertaining, too).

Anyway - more eggs, aye or nay?

Didja not see the Health and Safety ads? "An Egg a Day is OK." Never a more alluring or reassuring catchphrase was dreamt up!

I know, but what if you ate the equivalent of about five eggs yesterday? Two delicious poachers smothered in gorgeous and very, very rich sauce!

But, see, if you ate five eggs yesterday, that's five days' worth, right? However -- and this is important -- there are probably many days in your nearly 31 years on this planet on which you did NOT have eggs, and therefore, you may have your eggs and count them toward your egg quota for days gone by.

I dunno, I do eat a lot of eggs, so even though there are lots of days in which I didn't eat any eggs, there are also lots of days in which I ate two or three! So it may all balance out.

Well, I don't eat a lot of eggs, though I am going to make a massive omelette for dinner tomorrow (I have lots of eggs to use up before they go off). However, I have many, many days to date on which I did not eat any eggs at all, and so you can have some of my egg allowance, if you really want your poached eggs today.

I was a male war bride? I read that years ago - it was hysterical, including the way he got listed. At one point he was actually listed as a "War Husband" but ranked below "dogs of War Brides".

Oooh, is it based on a book? I didn't know! And is it actually a true story? I must look out for it now.

Am trying to find it atm. Am not succeeding.

BL doesn't have it either.

There's one copy on Abebooks - for £29 plus.

eggs benedict is the breakfast of kings. you probably need to eat more eggs today so that your body doesn't go cold turkey after such a treat.

Did you learn nothing from the Christmas that Avril & I got a heart shaped egg-pan and ate eggs (I just accidentally typed 'eggses', my precious) every morning till we both came out in hives? Was our suffering for naught? Too many eggs = hideous hives. (But it's probably fine to have a nice scrambled one!)

PS I drove in traffic!!! today & yesterday!
