Oh my God, the TWoP Doctor Who recaps are JUST GETTING WORSE!
It's about intimacy, interaction; the quality of how you choose to spend your time -- and what you do with the information. It's about intimacy.

OH GOOD SWEET JESUS, he's at it again. Is it really "about intimacy"? Really? How fascinating and insightful. And then goes on for an entire page about Gnostic mythology and really, I'm as geeky as the next person and I love reading intelligent academic essays on pop culture, but....IT'S DOCTOR FUCKING WHO! Christ.
Something above roars. Like a lion, like a God.

Or like a big scary CGI monster that's there to send us running behind the sofa rather than waffling on pompously about Zoroastrian myths? Seriously, this is some of the worst writing I've ever read in my life. It is truly, truly atrocious. It's so bad it actually enrages me. And yet I keep coming back each week, like a masochist!

That second extract made me laugh loudly enough to echo down the corridor. Are you sure that reading these is good for your blood pressure?

I don't think it's about intimacy. I think it's about wank gone wild.

Ha! So true.

Is the writer a little bit, um, special? I tend not to read them properly, just skim bits. I pay more attention to the forum to see what the viewers are making of it. There does seem to be a bit of the "all hail our mighty recapper" about him though.

I think he thinks he's some sort of genius because his writing is so, um, "literary". He certainly seems very pleased with himself and his dubious powers.

I KNOW. It's so terrible. He's so desperate to tell us about his facile observations on the Deeper Meaning, and it sits really badly with the TWoP-tone he's trying for in between times. I think this bit form the first page was one of my "favourites":

But on another level, it's not so funny: if you're only repeating the information somebody else gives you, it's not news, it's not legitimate, it's nothing but parroting back the last thing you heard. It's not the news:

Oh God, it's just so terrible. And you're so right about the unsuccessful mix of pretentious theorizing and ill-executed snark.

Oh, now my head HURTS.

All those poor journalists last night who were only repeating the information I'd given them about the latest on bird flu testing. They thought they were conveying news to their audience, when they were only parroting back the last thing they'd heard from someone else.

But... but... what is the news, then? Je ne comprends pas. Having just read it, I know he was talking about Rose and Adam, but his This Is Truth style is really ludicrous.

On another note, his self-conscious use of BritSlang is cringworthily laughable.

Ooh, this could almost become a weekly game to discover the most ludicrous line.

One of my contenders:
Whether it's the nightly news or a sci-fi show, a show is not brainless if you engage with it -- the quality of the entertainment is always directly dependent on the quality of the viewer, how much you are willing to risk in engagement.

The Doctor moves freely in four dimensions. She lives in two. It's creepy to him. And creepy, intransitively, but this is a parable, after all.

Yeah. Nowhere close to "like a lion."

Hee! No, I think both of those are possible winners in the most-preposterous-line competition! Especially the second one. Good grief.

That sounds like Jacob. I got tired of him with BSG, and his Serenity recap? Oy.

Some people really love him, though, find him relevatory.

That is indeed Jacob. And yeah, the Serenity recap caused me to feel physical pain. He's just so cheesy and pretentious.

The thing is, his recaps of stupid crappy shows have been really funny - he did one for a Michael Jackson biopic that was totally hilarious. But when he's dealing with something that's actually, like, good, apparently he's taken over by pompous preciousness.
