how are you? fine, thank you

This is totally freaking awesome.

Jem and the Holograms! Le Tigre! Together at last! God, how I loved Jem when I was a kid. Alas my mother wouldn't let us get ANY Barbie-esque dolls after the two raggedy old Sindys given to leedy at some time in the late '70s (with whom we played Jungle Sindys, which involved the Sindys living in the crabapple tree in the back garden), so I never had a Jem of my own, despite the fact that rockin' Jem was clearly much cooler and more feminist than horrible old Barbie or indeed Jungle Sindy.

Eep! Excited! Wish I could watch these things at work!

I love Le Tigre and I loved Jem, not least cos of her flashy earrings and the fact she's (sort of) named after ME! I never had any dolls besides battered old bighead Sindys but my sister, being two years younger and a lot more girly, had loads of Barbies and a Jem doll from Woolworths. I never played with Jem properly like with pretend games, but I did used to bash her head against things a lot and swish her about in time to music.

Jungle Sindy? Now there's a youtube tune waiting to be made.

Dwd, I didn't even know it was a TV show. I didn't have TV growing up, but I still knew Jem as a doll who played in a rock band, and I thought that was very cool. My parents also wouldn't let us have anything Barbie-esque; they thought those dolls portrayed women in a negative way. But I still liked playing with my friends' Barbies and I'm a total tomboy even today. *shrug*
