music shill alert

I love, love love Mark Ronson and Lily Allen's cover of the Kaiser Chiefs' 'Oh My God'. Share my delight here, if you are one of the few people in this part of the world who hasn't heard it already:

I really like it. It shows off her voice really nicely, all luxurious and in love with the words. And the words are pretty cool, that 'come back stronger than a powered up pac man' - I'd not noticed that before. Admittedly I couldn't even remember it was the Kaiser Chiefs til someone told me the other night. I fail at modern indie.

Yeah, I'd never noticed how cool the words were either! I love that pacman bit too. And I really like Lily Allen's voice - it's really pure and sweet without being sickly.

I hadn't seen the video yet! Is it wrong I think cartoon LOily is pretty hot?

If it is, I'd say you're not alone if your wrongness!

I swing between liking and disliking Lily Allen, but I do love this. I couldn't have said it was the Kaiser Chiefs either, kept hearing it and going "I know that's a cover, but who is it" and never got round to looking it up. Is that the Kaiser Chiefs popping up in the video?

I like a lot of Mark Ronson's stuff too - "Stop Me" is brilliant.

Also, I'm amused that Lily Allen and her siblings were the inspiration behind a couple of Harry Enfield characters.

Ooh, really? Which ones? I remember reading (possibly on Popbitch ages ago) about someone who had worked on a Keith Allen film about ten years ago and how Lily and her siblings were absolute and utter monsters who broke a photocopier so production assistants had to copy notices and scripts by hand.

That entire Mark Ronson album is great - the cover of Radiohead's 'Just' (which is one of my favourite ever songs anyway) is absolutely fantastic.

And yes, that os the Kaiser Chiefs in the video!

I caught the Friday Night Project the other week, when she was guest presenting, and she said then. Apparently Kevin the teenager was based on her older sister, while Lily and Alfie were the basis for the Toddlers, Lulu and Harry.

Ohmygoodness, that is five shades of awesome. Thank you. I have no idea who Mark Ronson is, but this is just feeding my Lily Allen habit. Wonder what the Kaiser Chiefs think of this.

Must go see if I can find a download of this.

Has the album been released in the US yet? It's been out here for a few months now, and is excellent! Mark Ronson is a DJ and producer - he produced Lily Allen's album as well as Amy Winehouse's Back to Black. The album is filled with funky, brass-heavy cover versions of (mostly British indie) songs. I think most of the covered artists approve, even Morrissey - and the Kaiser Chiefs must like it if they're in the video!

I'm really wanting to watch Who Framed Roger Rabbit now...
