if you're into it

Mere words can't describe how much I love Flight of the Conchords, the wonderful musical sitcom about a pair of New Zealand folkies adrift in New York. I'm usually wary of comedy songs, but their ones are totally hilarious. As is the whole programme. You can start watching it on Youtube (you can find every episode easily, each divided into three parts).

Or just check out a couple of songs, like this (alarmingly catchy) Pet Shop Boys-esque look at life on the mean streets...

...or this sensual account of meeting a new love...

...or this badass street rap...

...or this tender love song, which I first watched at work and had to actually leave the room because my efforts to repress my laughter caused a coughing fit...

Oh my goodness! That's so ace! I'd not heard of it at all before but now I want to watch all of it!

Isn't it brilliant? Patsington and I have been working our way through the series so far (thank heavens for Youtube, it's all there). The songs are probably the highlights of each episode, but the rest of it is still really, really funny and charming.

I saw them at the Fringe a few years ago - definite winners. Thanks for reminding me about them!

But if you want to create new Conchords fans, isn't Albi the Racist Dragon the best song to start with?

(They are brilliant, aren't they? )

They really are, they're the funniest thing I've seen in ages.

I forgot about Albi, I'm afraid! Actually, I was just thinking of songs that have appeared in the programme – Albi (or rather his story and the wisdom contained within) hasn't appeared yet, although I've only seen the first five episodes so far so maybe it turns up later. I can't wait to see how they do it...

I'm afraid that once it's in your head, it's very hard to get out. Sorry!

"Innah....innah city...innah city pressure...."
