have a break

I am back from London! Where I bought a wedding dress, ate a lot, hung out with my hospitable sister and her beau, visited the surprisingly moving Highgate Cemetary and went on a huge walk, bought loads of cool books, and stood near Kevin Shields at a gig (he seemed quite friendly and ordinary, not the near-mythical recluse of my imagination) and had a lovely dinner with lots of lovely LJ folk. So, all in all, quite an eventful few days. I hope the rest of the week is not eventful at all, as I have taken it off work in order to knit, buy Christmas presents on line, and (tomorrow) visit my wedding reception location (Fallon and Byrne's, to those familiar with Dublin) and discuss exciting things like menus, etc. And also to watch the latest Project Runway, possibly my favourite programme in the world after 30 Rock these days. This series is shaping up to be particularly awesome, what with the usual assortment of bitchy divas, weepy babies and total freaking lunatics (I think viewers of the show know who I'm talking about here). All that and the glorious Tim Gunn! I'm enjoying my little bit of time off very much.

What was the gig?

My husband is very excited about going to see My Bloody Valentine in June, there was a whole thing where he was in a mass flurry of excitement to get the tickets because they would (and did) sell out in 2 minutes. He thought he'd failed so then bought tickets for a gig in Manchester. He now has tickets to see them two nights in London (both of which he's going to) and 1 night in Manchester (which he won't be going to)... would you like me to find out what's going to happen to those tickets?

P.S. It was lovely to see you! I was very sad I was sitting on the exact opposite end of the table but Lizzie and I were trying to juggle places to sit to ensure that "The Box" was hidden!

Hee, you did a very good job! And it was lovely to see you too, albeit from the other end of the table. I barely got to talk to Lizzie at all! Next time I'm over we must all go somewhere with a round table.

Oooh, yes, definitely! The gig was in the (Heavenly) Social, it was a regular kind of shoegazey night called Sonic Cathedral - Jenny's boyfriend's excellent band The Flowers of Hell were playing there. Kevin Shields's girlfriend's band were also playing, hence his presence! They were quite good although she was rather affected in a "oh, I am a shy little French girl, I will gaze at you through my fringe!" way. I wasn't surprised that Mr Shields was there, but I was still genuinely kind of awestruck - when I was 16 the fact that he and Colm O'Ciosoig were from Dublin was a huge deal to little Irish indie kids!

Tom's going to that Manchester gig! I think I'm going to one of the Glasgow ones.

SO JEALOUS! Why aren't they playing in their (well, half of their) home city? WHY?!!!

Oh, and now I feel guilty because I don't have any particularly strong feelings about the gig, but mostly got a ticket cause all my Glasgow friends are going. If you come to Glasgow in early July you can have my ticket!
