My friend Mark's exhibition in the Gallery of Photography in Temple Bar. Go to it. It is so good. I went to the launch on Wednesday, unsure whether I'd like it or not, because video installations frequently do, in fact, suck, and I was worried that I would have to think of fake praising stuff to say to Mark, who is a very cool person (
Unexpected afternoon drinking! It's the spice of life! On Thursday I met the aforementioned Frau for lunch, which we ate in the Postgrad Common Room of my alma mater (and the Frau's current, um, mater, although lord knows you wouldn't want Trinity as your mother). Our peaceful dining was interupted by a fire alarm, so we scuttled out and decided, as the sun was now shining, to get some Arts Block tea/hot chocolate and relive our youth by sitting out in the sun of Fellow's Square, drinking hot beverages and talking bollocks. Which is what we were doing when who should walk by but
Went to see X2 on Saturday afternoon, and loved it. So, so comic geek-friendly! How cool was the appearance of Dr Hank McCoy (who is, of course, really the Beast) on the TV news in the bar? And Nightcrawler! I was sure they'd change the character and make him (A) not German and (B) not a really devout Catholic but lo, they made him both. Cool.
Continuing the Glitzfrau theme, I had a very nice dinner in her house on Saturday night. And we watched one of the funniest things I have ever seen in my life, Fantasy Bedtime Hour, which can be found here. It's basically two girls, in bed, analysing Stephen Donaldson's Chronicles of Thomas Covenant in great detail, page by page, including input from "experts" and truly hilarious reenactments. part of it are weirdly boring, but the funny bits made me almost cry with laughter. Enjoy....
And finally, yesterday the Boy and I went to Fota Island Wildlife Park in Cork, which is now my favourite place in the entire world. It's part of a world wide conservation programme, so they breed a lot of animals and so there are lots of baby ones, who rock so hard. The best moment was when we were gazing at a bunch of monkeys and the Boy went "wow, look at that really fat one", when the fat one's tummy fell off and ran away because it was not a tummy at all, it was a tiny baby monkey, who went off eating an apple. Coolest thing ever!
