Urgh. I think somehow my stupid laptop has been virused. It keeps trying to go online to open stupid ads, which is very annoying when I'm not online, and when I am online, it opens them, which is also annoying. Any suggestions on how to find and remove whatever stupid programme is responsible for this?

You have a nasty ad program called Gator (or something along those lines), which probably snuck (I'm from the West, I can say snuck) onto your machine when you installed something you downloaded from the web, like kazaa. To remove it, go to http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/ and download and run adaware, which will nuke any such spyware that it finds. Kazaa may break, if so either don't use it or google for a spyware-free version. (Or use soulseek instead.)

Yeah, I was going to post the same thing - AdAware rules.

Uninstall Kazaa and use Kazaalite if it breaks - no spyware and more anonymous.

If you have something called nCase (which sneaks on from Kazaa if you click on the wrong thing), DO NOT uninstall it. Uninstalling via the Control Panel actually runs more spy-bot programs, in particular one designed to replicate itself every time you restart your computer. It got so bad on hpsf_phoenix that he got dozens every few minutes. Adaware took care of all of it.
