help wanted!

If you are Irish (and you know what I mean by that - it means you are from here and/or live here, not that your great grandmother was from Kerry) would like to be interviewed - using your full real name - via email for the Irish Times (yes, that Irish Times) about your online journal, please comment here.

I may be able to help you.
I left Ireland a few years ago, and have no problem disclosing my full real name.

Am I any use?

I only have my little livejournal, which I hardly ever update, so I don't know if I'd count as an on-line journaller. I do read alot of journals and have done for years.

Let me know,

Yes, that'd be great! Especially as you are almost a teenager (she wants teenagers too. Not exactly sure why.) Can I mail you some questions?

And remember, they want your full name and everything. In the Times!

Mail away - g.lynch @ mailcity.com

Do you have a deadline?

God knows, as she hasn't got back to me with the things she wants me to change. But it'll probably be tomorrow. I think.

I'm an American transplant to Dublin (with putative Irish roots, but I've never bothered looking them up); have lived here for 6 years. At least 4 friends locally have active journals, probably one or two of them because I was on LJ.

As well, I've discovered it's very handy for keeping track of disparate groups of people from my past. The only thing I might not be good for with this interview is age - I turned 40 this year. (Well, I like my age! Among other things, experience seems protective when dealing with creeps and predators on the Internet...)

As long as the interview doesn't nail together my legal name and my on-line persona, I don't mind using my full name or other background bits in The Irish Times.

Thanks a million! I don't think it would be necessary to give the url of your journal. I'm still waiting for the editor to get back to me with exactly what she wants, so stay tuned for questions.

Oh, if you don't need to link the name and the url, then it's fine to use my real name, if it helps to add Paper of Record-style gravitas to your article!

hey, my mail to you keeps being bounced back - can you mail me asap at missannacarey @ yahoo.com ? Thanks!
Jul. 25th, 2003 01:42 am (UTC)
Did the e-mail arrive? I sent it last night as soon as I saw your message.

I'm beginning to get paranoid - that the rising amount of spam is squeezing out my legitimate messages. (I don't think there are spam filters vs yahoo addresses specifically at my webmail.) But just the same, if you still have problems, let me know here and I'll e-mail you from my private account, which I filter more or less by hand.

i'm totally up for it. i've had an on-line journal since 1997 - it only went friends-only in recent times, in part due to the mad plagiarism thing.
Jul. 23rd, 2003 07:30 am (UTC)
Oh wow, you'd be perfect! Would you mind giving your surname? Although of course I could just make one up.
Jul. 23rd, 2003 01:33 pm (UTC)
sent you an e-mail!

Dunno if you're interested in talking to me as I've had my weblog in the media before, but I'd be interested in talking to you about http://www.tomcosgrave.com but absolutely NOT about my Socmot identity as that's for me and trusted friends only.

I've been interviewed before (Irish Times) and mentioned as well (Indo and Herald) Have also had an article about blogs / journals published in PC Live! last year - online at - http://www.techcentral.ie/techcentral/pchome/internet/bluffers_guide_to_blogging.xml

Another suggestion is talking to Karlin Lillington of the Irish Times who has a weblog called Techno / Culture at http://radio.weblogs.com/0103966 ...but that may be conflict of interest as she's a freelancer for the publication that you're writing for :-)
