Here's an absolutely fantastic interview with Joss Whedon. If only they had done what they planned to do last season with Tara!

It's interesting reading his views on education, having been to an American high school and a British public school. On the American SATS:

WHEDON: That's not an indication of an education.

I thought that was the point and the strength of American SATS - they don't test how well you've been taught, they test your natural aptitude. So theoretically, a bright student who went to an underfunded inner-city school should get the same scores as a bright student who went to a thirty-thousand-dollar-a-year school.

Hm. I can see the strengths of both systems, because they do such different things, but I still can't manage to agree that incredibly elitist public schools are a good thing.

But didn't he say that he thought that standard should be applied across the board? I don't think he was defending the insitution of elitist education, just the high standards.

Also, I dunno about the fairness of SATs. Students in 'better' schools can get coached in them, and seem to do better, so it's not just an IQ test....
